ta ta tuesday at the ballpark

Nicole, Tricia and I rode the BART up to Oakland to see an A's game for titty tuesday yesterday. I had gotten some free tickets from a co-worker. I'm not a huge fan of basball, or organised sports at all for that matter (hockey doesn't count *wink wink*) but hey, free tickets are always a good way to change things up on your weekly girls night. We filled up the flasks, paid out 6 dollars for round trip fare, bought our hef's and nachos and settled in for America's favorite pasttime.

We passed a vigil when turning into Fremont. A call to all residents of the city to turn in information surrounding an unsolved murder. I am a huge fan of demonstrations. I feel that in our internet-based world, gestures like this really DO make an impact...when people get out of their homes and really impact a LOT more people.

Some plans for the upcoming work week....it is my Sunday night after all...
building a worm bin

trying to locate some free glassware for transporting food to and from work, getting rid of the plastic..

who knows what else...I could paint, sew....other things to not spend money i suppose.
I miss this guy

he'll be home friday night..

The Bronx and an F-$ bday

We saw the Bronx play at the Independent last week. Awesome. The opening band was a joke, but fuck....the Bronx made up for it....I haven't felt like I wanted to go smash elbows with idiots at a show in quite some time, but this night I did.

Pan's Labyrinth = Overpriced Distraction

Ok Ok I know....its award winning and stuff. Ask yourself why?

Barrett and I watched Pan's Labyrinth last night. Him for the first time, me for the second. Despite the overwhelming plot jumps and reaching for believability...it was just plain BORING. I don't think the whole juxtapozing of period piece with fantasy piece worked at all. Either give me a movie about the 1940's Spanish Guerillas or one about a little girl trying to get into her own wonderland...not both. You're constantly trying to care about two completely different subjects, both totally different from one another. I think it comes off as a total waste of two hours, spent either wondering what was actually going on in Spain in the 1940's or gazing at the pretty colors of the CGI...which is such an easy fucking cop-out for "good movies" these days. The other thing is it is trying to relate Fairy Tales to something grown people can care about and be amused by, because this is obviously NOT a kids movie. Smashing a rebel in the face with a bottle until you can blatantly see his face caved in is not something I'd want any child to see...yet what mature adult is going to be entertained by the quest of a fantasy princess to sit on her throne for many centuries? The ultimate case for why this movie has gotten so much good press is that it succeeds in being a giant DISTRACTION. Don't get me wrong I'm all for artful pieces relieving our overly stressed minds from our day-to-day...but give me a story to get into either fictional or non, rather than throwing millions of dollars at a computer and set design hoping to get a catchy story line out of it.
Bottom line...see Devil's Backbone instead.

three day weekends start on monday

Since I am one of the lower totems on the pole at work, my normal days off fall on Tuesday and Wednesday. This week since we're celebrating labor....I got Monday too. Lots of time to work on things around the house, read, go to shows and stuff like that.

On Sunday, Barrett, Jami and I drove over to Ben Lomond because Dead Meadow was playing a little show at this creepy place called Brookdale Lodge. It was built in 1900 and is rumored ro be one of the most haunted places in California. I don't really believe in that, but it did have this eerie feeling in its many antiquated rooms and lounges.Totally pretty though. Dead Meadow was filming a video that night and had asked everyone to come in masquerade. We didn't, but got right up close anyways.

--------------

Yesterday, Nicole, Frank, Barrett and I went to The Counter in Santana Row, this gourmet burger place where you can make a custom burger from like a million toppings and choices. Their veggie version is vegan and made in-house....really really good, but the price is totally gouging. Normally I wouldn't be caught dead back in Santana Row, but I had to try this sandwich.
From there, we drove up to the city to go to Zeitgeist to spend our afternoon off drinking with a couple hundred friends. It was so packed.

Frank lookin desperately for a table

After a pitcher or so, we were able to sit and broke out the Travel Scrabble!

I would have felt kind of awkward, but its totally commonplace at this bar to bring your own nerdy games, its like nowhere I've been. The people on the other end of the table had brought their own Boggle, the table behind us was all wrapped up in some board game with cards, screaming at each other. We are such huge nerds but it was so much fun. After a couple games, we put it away and started playing Bullshit, a card game. We were like 4 or 5 pitchers deep, except Frank because he was driving, and were literally calling every play as BS at the top of our lungs.

It was a total mess.

around 9 or so it was burrito time and the end of the evening...good day for sure.
