I'm still hungry. I made a big dinner for Barrett and me earlier...giant salad, sesame-teriyaki simmered veggies, banana. It seemed like a lot of food but I guess I'm burning through calories quicker now. My body functions are evening out to work like they are supposed to, processing things I ingest with pretty quick speed. Damn, after 2 beers I can feel wonderful!
We've been spending a lot of time in the city lately...its more fun that way. Getting pretty partial to the mission. We drove up three nights in a row last week, once for the booksale, then for exploring, then for a show at Rickshaw. We saw Darker My Love.....shitty name, reminds me of so many emogoth fashioncore ensembles...but the music on the other hand, quite good. Not at all emo, or goth, or fash, or core for that matter. Just good. The kind you can feel because its tuned down so low. The kind where you can lay on your floor and stare up at the designs in your ceiling stucco while listening to. Good road trip shit. We had parked ourselves in the balcony because the dance party below was a little frightening.

stockpiling brain food

All you need...broccoli, brown rice, garlic, stella.

I think I have a thing for blurry road driving shots. Something about the way the camera catches the bouncing light...or how it makes me remember certain songs that make driving relaxing...or how you can feel the speed of the car just by looking into picture..

sometimes when you think nobody is watching....somebody is...

-----
So people actually order these things in bulk?

Baby beagle puppy being surrendered. It does not get much more undeniably adorable.

-------
After work I head about a "Fuck the Fourth" book sale at the AK Press Warehouse in Oakland. Entire stock at %25 off and lots of books at 1-5 dollars each. The AK Press is a tiny distro joint that supports independant dissenting voices, writing on issues that ACTUALLY MATTER. On the way, more car shots.

Getting into their warehouse to bump elbows with the like and peruse the pages of important topics and deserving writers was awesome. There was food, beer, wine, music, tabling, and books from floor to ceiling. Fucking great.

I bought these:

Total: $35.
Afterwards...drove around Oakland, Barrett had never been. Ended up at a great diner style restaurant for a belly-busting meal of spicy tofu rancheros, and spicy tofu burrito.

The night continued with a drive accross the Bay Bridge into the city. We figured, we're this close, why not do some exploring? More blurred driving accross the bridge pics..

WE drove through the mission portrero ish area up to Dolores Park...hiked up to the top of the hill and hung out up there looking over the city..peaceful. Lots of late night dog walkers, lots of youngish's on fixies, a couple or fireworks.

it was a good day.

its always nice waking up to sprinkles of water on your face from your cat deciding his little furry paws need a dipping.

toof and nonsense

things that have happened lately....hmm..a mini schnauzer puppy got confiscated from a shitty pet store that was only open for a week and ended up at our shelter.
I went to see Day One Symphony at Rasputin's in Campbell on Saturday. Not prime conditions being a music store with sauna-like temp, bright lights and jockeying for butt space between rows of used cds....nevertheless....amazing. They always are. I highly recommend.

Later that night Barrett, Nicole, Frank and I headed up to the city to see Poor Bailey and Audrye Sessions, but when we got there the show was sold out so Frank and Nicole couldn't get in. bummer but they're local so we can go see them again. We ended up in the Mission at the 500 Club. Sweaty, packed, loud, locals, smiles, drunks, skateboards, dogs, drinks. For some silly reason all my pictures were dark and blurry....

then i photo'd some random duggans under the Duggan's Funeral Home sign. It's lit up like the finger of god.

good times were had by all.
also...every once in a while...ramen.

downtown down time

Today I woke up feeling like shit. So I stayed home and slept. A lot. and read and did nerdy things like listen to Air America talk radio and sign petitions. They've been talking a lot about the whole mess of a situation surrounding what Ann Coulter said about John Edwards the other day. I'm convinced this woman is certifiably insane. She's very in favor of killing millions of civilians in the countries we're "at war" with, has said she wished democratic politicians in this country were killed by terrorist attacks, and still sees her book sales freaking soar. google or youtube the videos if you want to see some serious hate speach that passes for political talk.
Poe has gotten into this really weird habit of dropping his favorite toy in his water dish and letting it sit there and soak up water. I asked the behaviorist at work why in the world he would do that and the only thing she could think of was that he'd figured out it could be like his own little portable water source. He drags that thing around the whole house..

Barrett had a major jonesin for sushi the other day so we decided to walk down to Chocolate Sushi, this really rad restaurant we'd seen thats near our house. On the way, this caught my eye...left right in the middle of a parking lot..

The restaurant was really nice and there was almost nobody there. The entire cocktail menu was custom drinks that were named after Kill Bill characters. There were a bunch of vegan friendly choices, including this really good roll that had 5 different kinds of vegetables, peanut butter and a miso vinaigrette. Sounds weird, but it was sooo good.

Barrett made an almost-paste of wasabi and soy...perhaps too much?

I was sooo freaking full after leaving that place. We promised the server we'd be back!
Later we went downtown to see the Camille Rose Garcia art installation. I tried to sneak some pictures but was quickly hushed and informed I was not allowed to do that! Bummer...her stuff was amazing.
